Pair Victorian Era Sepia Children's Photographs. These are offered because they are excellent examples not only for the quality of the photos, but because they feature children in clothing indicative of the times. As such, they serve as important historical examples of late Victorian era children's fashions. The smaller is our favorite-- notice the two daughters and their mother (we are assuming both are girls). The girls' dresses look like they are right out of a Currier & Ives print. We are so lucky these images and historical fashions were captured for all time. The larger photo is a sibship of 3 sisters, a brother and an infant whose gender is unknown. Note the 3 sisters are all dressed in versions of the same plaid dress. The brother is handsome in his suit with knickers and high shoes. The infant is in a long gown typical of the times. We think, based on fashions, that this photo is later than the first--probably late 1800's whereas the first could be as early as the 1860's. The smaller photo is marked with the photographer's branding on the back = Britton and Sons 40 High Street Barnstaple (state unknown).
